Congo Copper Projects

Overview


Handa Copper is focused upon building a portfolio of quality copper assets in Africa. Our technical team is constantly reviewing opportunities presented to the company via its extensive network of industry affiliations throughout the region.

Handa Copper holds a comprehensive database of copper occurrences and deposits throughout the Neo-Proterozoic basins in sub-Saharan Africa. Examination of this regional data has allowed the company to re-interpret the key controls to mineralisation and to prioritise exploration areas on this basis. This database is a powerful and dynamic tool that continues to grow and develop.

Handa Copper's projects in the Neo-Proterozoic West Congolian Belt of the Republic of Congo (ROC) were selected based on a thorough evaluation and interpretation of this regional database and they now form the current focus of the company's operations. The following geology map shows the surface geology on the company's two licenses, various copper deposits and copper occurrences, and the regional infrastructure. Stratigraphic Setting

Mineral Deposit Types


The primary mineral deposit types being targeted by Handa Copper are sediment-hosted copper ± zinc ± lead deposits typical of the metallogenic provinces in similar age rock sequences in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Namibia and Botswana.

The principal deposit types include:
  • Shale and sandstone hosted stratiform Cu-Co and Cu-Ag deposits (e.g. Zambian-type Copperbelt deposits, Ghanzi, Oamites deposits)
  • Cu-Co-hosted in carbonate-dominated sequences (DRC-type Copperbelt deposits)
  • Structure / fault controlled Cu ± Ag± Zn ± Pb type deposits (e.g. Dikulushi)
  • Carbonate hosted Zn-Pb±Cu deposits (e.g. Kipushi, Kabwe, Tsumeb, Bamba-Kilenda)
These mineral deposit models are generally well understood, with world-class examples hosted throughout central and southwestern Africa.

Existing and Planned Infrastructure Supportive of New Mine Development


The economic viability of most copper mines is sensitive to transportation infrastructure including rail and port facilities. Access to the company's exploration licenses in ROC is from Pointe-Noire on the Atlantic coast, then inland via tarred road to Dolisie, a distance of 160 km. Thereafter, access to the license areas is via gravel roads from Dolisie. A railway line connects Dolisie with Pointe-Noire. This rail line extends north to the border with Gabon, crossing the south-eastern corner of our Maboudou licence, with the other leg continuing on to Brazzaville. The domestic airport at Dolisie connects daily flights to Brazzaville.

Pointe-Noire is the centre of the RoC's oil industry and the site of one of the major deep water ports on the west coast of Africa. A new bulk resource port 30 km to the north of Pointe-Noire has been proposed by the government. Pointe-Noire is a 3-4 hour drive from the company's license areas. Dolisie is located between the company's two license areas and is the third largest city in the RoC with a population of over 100,000.

Dolisie is an important commercial centre and a major rail link between Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville. It provides administrative, support services and accommodation for various activities in the region. Handa Copper currently uses Dolisie as a central base for its initial stages of exploration. An exploration camp has been established at Maboudou, a three hour drive from Dolisie. Maboudou has established grid power and cellular communications.

The majority of the RoC's installed power capacity is hydro generated, with two hydro-electric power stations near Brazzaville and thermal power stations at Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire. The grid power infrastructure is largely confined to the south of the country between Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville. This power network exists within close proximity to our existing licenses in the ROC. Infrastructure

Neo-Proterozoic West Congolian Belt


Handa Copper considers the Neo-Proterozoic West Congolian Belt (WCB) to be highly prospective for Copperbelt-style base-metal mineralisation. The WCB shares striking similarities with the world famous Central African Copperbelt in terms of lithology, stratigraphy and structure; many of these shared features being key components of the mineral deposit model adopted by Handa Copper.

Numerous base-metal mineral occurrences and deposits in the ROC and throughout the WCB bolster this interpretation and prove that an effective mineralising system exists within the basin.

The ROC contains over 600km strike-length of the WCB which Handa Copper considers to be a prime address taking into consideration the geology, infrastructure and jurisdiction.

Banda Kayes Project


Handa Copper has secured a large and strategic land holding within the WCB that currently consists of two projects: the Maboudou Project and the Banda Kayes Project. Licence Location

The Banda Kayes project comprises a land package totalling approximately 5,100 square kilometres and is located in the department of Bouenza in the south of the ROC. Handa Copper has carried out a comprehensive data collation program that has produced 17 coherent stream geochemical anomalies first identified in 1960. Follow-up work was never carried out on these anomalies until an initial reconnaissance program executed by Handa Copper in Q3 2014. Initial results are encouraging and suggest that the anomalies are reproducible.

Handa Copper is carrying out a target prioritisation exercise prior to commencing a systematic exploration program in the license area.

Maboudou Project


The Maboudou project is located within the department of Niari in northwestern ROC and consists of a land package covering approximately 3,000 square kilometres. Historic mineral occurrences are recorded in the area along with evidence of indigenous, pre-colonial copper smelting activity. Handa Copper is currently carrying out a systematic soil sampling program on two priority targets in the license area.
